The death of one society can be the birth of another.
Jim Wyatt had always said that if everything fell apart, he didn't just want to survive - he didn't want to notice. When the world did crash, his family's home of Stonemont became not only a refuge, but a place where it might be possible to start over again, and re-claim the American ideal.
Excerpt

Jim Wyatt looked at the National Guard Captain who had just threatened to confiscate Stonemont's supplies.
"The U.S. government long ago turned away from serving the interests of the American people and declined into a despotic organism which took from those who were productive and gave to those who were not. In essence, captain, the government became a facilitator for parasites who eventually destroyed their host's ability and willingness to support them."
"I don't know what you mean," said Collins, obviously confused and irritated. "This is nonsense."
Jim leaned back in his chair. "I'm not surprised that you don't know what I mean, captain. You must have gone to public schools. But as far as being nonsense, it is not. It was the government programs of the past fifty years that were nonsense, and which destroyed our country's ability and will to defend against the kind of thing that’s happened to us. They were too busy making economic and political war on those who believed in the founding principles of this country to focus on the real enemies. Or maybe they did it on purpose. Who knows? It doesn't matter now. What matters is that we may have been given an opportunity to start over. If so, we're sure as hell not going to do it by taking some people's stuff away from them and giving it to other people. Around here, any giving, taking or exchanging of private property will be voluntary."
Jim stared at Collins, who stared back in silent fury.
"So there won't be any receiving, securing, taking or redistributing of anything around here, captain, except as we, as free men and women, decide of our own free will. Is that clear?"

From the Foreward ...

Among the many novels in the SHTF/TEOTWAWKI genre, The Reversion stands apart – and, perhaps, alone. This is not just because it is well written, not just because it tells a great story, and not just because its character development is exceptional - although those would be enough. The Reversion’s singularity lies in the lessons it teaches and the preparedness path it suggests.
The Reversion does not follow the survival learning curve of the unprepared or minimally-prepared, as so many excellent books have already done so well. Rather, it is the story of a man who was prepared, and of how his preparation and foresight provided not only a safe haven for himself and his family, but a re-start point for those who come together to survive the collapse of the world around them. As such, it is an unbelievably positive book about an unbelievably negative circumstance, and carries within it the lessons of preparedness and survival that every person should strive to attain.
Tightly woven into the story are threads of history, morality, politics, economics, philosophy and comparative justice – the kind America was founded on, the kind they had devolved into under the weight of an increasingly liberal and socialist society, and the kind that might re-establish a society reflective of America’s original ideals. As these threads are woven into the fabric of the larger story of survival, the realization emerges that a great catastrophe enabled the return of what makes us, as human beings, truly happy and fulfilled, and that, perhaps, only a great catastrophe could.
The Reversion, written by an expert in survival and preparedness with an interesting government and non-government background, is destined to be an instant classic in the preparedness/survival genre. More than a good story, it is a manual and a resource for all who are interested in these fields, and deserves to be kept on your desk or chair-side table where it can be read, re-read and referred to often.

A note from the author ...

First, I would like to thank all of my readers, who, of course, are the real reason for the success of this book, and for the many kind and supportive emails, comments and reviews I have received from so many of you. Your feedback has been unbelievably gratifying, and is more appreciated than I can tell you.
When I started writing The Reversion, it was as much a mental exercise in applying the concepts of Integrative Preparedness in a fictional setting as anything else. In essence, it was my attempt to explain those concepts in story form so that people could more easily understand how they work when applied in real life. Plus, I found, as the story developed, that a world was being created in which I felt much more comfortable than the one I currently inhabit. I'm sure that says something about me, but I'll leave that to others to determine.
Not thinking of myself as a "writer", let alone an "author" (I had previously written very little outside of martial arts and combatives material), and not knowing how to type anyway, I did not sit down to my computer at a well-lighted desk with a cup of coffee and overflowing inspiration with intentions of hacking out a great novel. Rather, I started pecking out thoughts and ideas, with one finger, on the notes app of my phone. Pretty soon, the story started flowing and about a year later there were 98,781 words (446,634 characters), each pecked out one at a time by one finger on my phone.
It took me another year to get it properly formatted (because I didn't know what I was doing and wouldn't ask for help) and another year to proof it and design the cover, but it finally got done and the result has been far more than I ever would have anticipated.
To those of you who are already part of the Stonemont "family", thank you. I am more gratified than I can tell you that you have enjoyed and perhaps learned something from this book. And yes, there is another one coming.
To those of you who have not yet read The Reversion, I hope you will, and that you will enjoy it and learn a bit from it. And I hope you become one of our "family" as you apply some of the prnciples contained in it to improve your life today while preparing for tomorrow.

Semper Paratus,
Steve 'Craig' Smith
